Why Do Some Runners Have Heart Attacks?

When runners train for a marathon, the workout will be much more intense so it will automatically increase the fitness of the body. If the runner tries to go beyond the heart-rate target, then the heart will get stressed out. The heartbeat will increase, and the individual can go into sudden cardiac arrest. Doing high-intensity exercise can increase the risk of going into cardiac arrest, or sudden cardiac death for people with underlying cardiac disease.

There is something called Athletic Heart Syndrome (AHS), which is a non-pathological condition that is more common in sports medicine in which the human heart gets enlarged, and the resting heart rate becomes lower than normal. The athlete’s heart is associated with physiological remodeling because of repetitive cardiac loading.
